Hugh B. Alexander captures the elegance of speed and the power of automobiles, locomotives and various images through color, graphic patterns and design. An avid Formula One racing fan since his early teens and a train enthusiast since childhood, Hugh demonstrates in his paintings what he teaches in the classroom – he paints what he knows. Hugh’s camera captures cars, trains, and planes in hundreds of intimately detailed images at venues throughout the globe. Using photos as reference, he hand paints every brush stroke in his extraordinary compositions.
A graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, Hugh has illustrated for Road & Track, Sports Car International, and Off Road magazines, and Rosso Ferrari – a publication for Ferrari enthusiasts – as well as for corporate and private collectors.
Hugh makes his home in Denver where he combines a passion for automobiles, trains and planes with yoga, hiking and mountain climbing. The peaceful isolation of mountain peaks contrasts the power and speed he communicates in his paintings and provides a healthy balance.
Illustration clients in the United States, Europe and Japan have employed the award-winning talents of Hugh Alexander. He has shown his work in numerous national art exhibitions and is a member of the Society of Illustrators.
Hugh is a professor in the illustration department at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Lakewood, Colorado. Selected as “Teacher of the Year” by the students and faculty of RMCAD, he delights in sharing his love of art and celebrates the careers of his students and peers.
